Take a Trip

I love Fall for lots of reasons. I like the colors, the smells, the cooler temperatures.
So one of my daughters asked me, "Mom you love this time of year, why do you always
travel someplace else? Fair question considering I just came back from a 3 week trip to
Scotland. There are lots of reason; fewer families traveling, good weather.
All that is true, but you do different things in the cooler Fall, than in the hot summer. As
an artist, I spent a great deal of time just "looking". I was so busy getting ready for this
trip that I didn't paint for a month before we left, and truth be told, I was out of ideas.
Now I am energized with ideas and I have a pile of photographs to peak my imagination.
I loved all of Scotland from the Isle of Sky and the Highlands to Stirling Castle, Glasgow,
St. Andrew and Old Town of Edinburgh.
I saw new things and am eager to capture the feelings I experienced there. I'm not a
person that goes hiking with a Nikon camera. In fact, I have to remember to take a
photo because I'm so involved in experiencing a scene. But my kids told me to send
pictures, so I did. I'm back in my studio now experimenting with ideas. As usual, some will
work and some will get worked over.
Now, you don't have to travel 1/2 way around the world to get ideas. I know this. Sit
on a park bench and people watch. Or take pictures in a grocery store...….ready make
still lifes. The thing is, if you get away from the canvas, go out and just look, it is like
being a kid again on a field trip. You will see something interesting.
Well it's time for my tea and cake. Bye, bye Starbucks.
