Spring Fever

It is a beautiful day in the Pacific NW which, generally, means no one really wants to be inside working.  I firmly believe

this area is such a productive and inventive area because the weather keeps us inside so often thinking.  But today the sky is blue,

the water is sparkling and the trees are beautifully green.  I look at Facebook and see all the lovely paintings being

done of tulips, dogwood and lilies.  I've painted flowers too, but they just don't seem to fit the direction I'm going right now.

Although I still jump off the track I'm heading down and do something completely representative and realistic,

I try to stick to the direction I've been moving with a particular series.  Jumping off allows me to go back to basic

rules which is good to remind myself  that the rules are there for a reason, even if they are just to break and make

it work (or not work in some cases).  I've also found that when I appear to digress, it either confuses or pleases my

husband and friends.  "Well, you haven't done anything like that in a long time!"   "Oh I love that.  I know what it is."

"Heh, I understand this one."

Not wanting to spoil anyone, I quickly go back on track in the hopes of continuing to learn.  I don't feel one style

is superior to another.   My goal is to learn something with each new series, be it impressionistic, abstract or realistic.

Well I think I'll go paint a purple barn or some blue trees.  But then I could just pour a glass of wine, sit on the deck

and enjoy the sunshine.  It might rain tomorrow and then I'll get all kinds of things done.
